 June 2011 - Simple life changes with amazing effects!

 

Greetings everyoneJ

 

I am feeling incredibly blessed and excited after spending three weeks in New York and Pittsburgh, not only developing some amazing new therapy skills but also putting in place the way forward with my friend and colleague Dr Kathleen Hartford.

 

One of the ladies I met has lost 155lbs (70kgs) and has gone from being an insulin dependant diabetic to no medication at all, in just over a year, using Dr Hartford’s healthy approach to living.

Dr Kath’s rejuvenation program is similar to what I have been preaching to my clients; although it is her integrative, science-based healthcare approach of the Mediterranean diet, exercise, self reflection and medical food supplements that make it so powerful.

 

Our lifestyles are creating accelerated aging inside our bodies which is leading to an ever increasing rise in:

  • Heart disease
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Osteoporosis
  • High blood pressure
  • Cholesterol
  • Unexplained weight gain

Some statistics that apply to South Africa as well: According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), chronic diseases are the leading causes of death and disability in the U.S. These illnesses are responsible for 7 of every 10 deaths, affect the quality of life of millions, and consume 78% of all health care expenditures. Because a wide variety of these conditions are caused by unhealthy lifestyle habits, national clinical guidelines for their management advocate a multifactorial lifestyle approach designated “therapeutic lifestyle changes” or “TLC.”

What we eat does not only effect how are bodies look but it also impacts on how our bodies function as well as our thoughts, and feelings too. The same applies to exercise (or the lack there of), stress and disease. Prevention is paramount. Virtually every complex, chronic disease is preceded by long-term disturbances in functionality.

The good news is that we are able to reverse accelerated aging by simply changing our lifestyles. No fad diets or crazy weight loss pills are needed either!!

 

Does it sound too simple to you, and you are wondering what the catch is?

Truly, there isn’t oneJ!!

 

The way forward:

  • I will be continuing to assist my clients with behaviour changes through therapy/coaching and hypnotherapy.

 

  • As Dr Kath’s full program becomes available here, I will also be offering 30minute coaching and assessment appointments to help keep my clients on track with their lifestyle changes.
  • We are focusing on getting the medical food supplements imported from the States at the best prices possible (as close to cost as can be managed).
  • Dr Kath is also arranging for her book to be in a downloadable version from her website to decrease costs too.

 

  • In the long term, we are planning to bring her coaching program to South Africa as well.

 

What you can start doing from today:

  • Change to the Mediterranean diet as much as possible:

 

  • Have regular small meals and avoid starving yourself by having healthy snacks when a meal is not possible
  • Take:

- A high quality multivitamin and antioxidant (you can call me for suggestions)

- Pure essential fatty acids (balancing your Omega 3, 6 and 9s).

  You will not lose weight if you do not have essential fatty acids in your diet!!

 

  • Exercise whenever you get a moment (remember 10 minutes is better than no minutes!)

 

  • Look at ways of combating stress – a coach or therapist may be of help here too.

 

  • For those of you who have seen me as clients – go through your Weight Masters notes again.

 

  • Make time to self reflect and journal (an end of day journal is also in your Weight Master notes).

 

 

These approaches allow you to really be in charge of improving your own health and changing the outcome of disease while knowing that there is continued support through me, and Dr Kath’s websites in helping you reach and maintain your health goals.
